নওগাঁ জেলায় অবস্থিত বৌদ্ধ বিহারের নাম সোমপুর বিহার। এর নির্মাতা ধর্মপাল ছিলেন পাল বংশের শ্রেষ্ঠ সম্রাট। তিনি বাংলা থেকে পাঞ্জাবের জলন্ধর পর্যন্ত সমগ্র উত্তর ভারতে রাজ্য বিস্তার করেন। এটি মধ্যযুগীয় সবচেয়ে বড় বিহার । অন্যদিকে রামপাল ছিলেন বিখ্যাত বাঙালি বৌদ্ধ পণ্ডিত অতীশ দীপঙ্করের সমসাময়িক পাল রাজা আর চন্দ্রগুপ্ত মৌর্য ছিলেন মৌর্য বংশের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা।
